• Abstract:
  The Journal of Transportation and Statistics (JT&S) was a periodically issued journal (from 1998 to 2014) that served the transportation community by increasing the understanding of the role of transportation in society, its function in the economy, and its interactions with the environment. In addition, the JT&S provided a forum for the latest developments in transportation information and data, theory, concepts, and methods of analysis relevant to all aspects of the transportation system. The JT&S published original research on the use of information to improve public and private decision making for transportation. Topics included: measuring transportation activity and the performance of transportation systems; quantifying and analyzing the importance of transportation and its consequences; measuring and analyzing transportation trends; advancing the science of acquiring, validating, managing and disseminating transportation information; calculating sustainable energy; and, analyzing data for transportation planning and operations. ; The papers in this issue are: Introduction to the Special Issue on the 2001 National Household Travel Survey; Assessment of 2001 New York State NHTS Add-On Data Using Empirical and Auditable Data Sources; Bayesian Approaches to Learning from Data: Using NHTS Data for the Analysis of Land Use and Travel Behavior; A Closer Look at Public Transportation Mode Share Trends; Built Environment and Nonmotorized Travel: Evidence from Baltimore City Using the NHTS; Using Bayesian Updating to Enhance 2001 NHTS Kentucky Sample Data for Travel Demand Modeling; Using National Data to Simulate Metropolitan Area Household Travel Data; and, Travel Surveys: Methodological and Technology-Related Considerations.
