Three topics are addressed in this paper: an update on the 1995 NPTS (Nationwide Personal Travel Survey); the changes in survey methodology between 1990 and 1995, which serve as the framework for the discussion of the conflict between improving the travel survey and comparing the data over time; what we learned from the NPTS experience and our advice to others.
