Abstract:The main objectives of this project are to develop crash prediction models for driver behavior related crashes and to develop a web application tool to be used by practitioners for performing hot spot identification and selecting effective countermeasures to mitigate crashes related to different types of driver behaviors. Other than the traditional roadway geometric data, unconventional data elements were collected and used in the crash prediction models including, but not limited to toxicology data, crime and citation data, socio-demographic, and business data. A centric countermeasure database related to driver behaviors was generated by the project to help practitioners better select and plan appropriate projects across the state. Moreover, a highly customized web-based application tool was developed to allow practitioners to conduct analysis included in the highway safety management process including network screening, diagnosis, countermeasure selection and economic appraisal.
