To explore relationships among age-related changes and older driver performance and behavior, NHTSA sponsored six studies over the previous decade. Then another report aggregated and analyzed the data they collected. The result included clinical measures of participants’ functional (including cognitive) status, scores on a formal evaluation of driver performance, and measures of driving exposure collected using a naturalistic driving study instrumentation installed in participants’ vehicles. This Traffic Tech briefly summarizes some of the finding of that longer report, Older Driver Performance Across Multiple Six Naturalistic Studies, soon to be released.
