  • Abstract:
    The Eighth National Highway/Utility Educational Conference was held in Louisville, Kentucky, on April 12-14, 2000, at the Galt House Hotel. The objective of the conference was to focus attention on highway/utility issues. Speakers representing Federal, State, and local highway agencies, the utility industry, professional associations, the academic community, and the private sector were invited to attend the conference and participate on the program. The record of their remarks is contained within these proceedings of the conference. About 130 professional people attended the conference. In addition to the technical sessions, workshops were conducted on pertinent highway/utility iii topics. These workshops provided an opportunity for the conference participants to discuss in detail issues raised in the technical sessions or of particular concern. The conference was financially supported by registration fees paid by participants. The prime sponsor for the conference was the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA). The enthusiasm and dedication of the conference coordinator and her helpers; the work of the conference planning committee; the preparation and expertise of those who participated on the program; and the enthusiasm of the conference participants, were all instrumental in making the Eighth National Highway/Utility Educational Conference a success.
