Abstract:Nanoscale science, engineering, chemistry and technology—nanotechnology science—is expected to deliver societal and economic benefits in multiple fields. Transportation is expected to be one of the sectors that will see impacts from improved material life through to environmental benefits. This report provides a high-level overview and introduction to the science of nanotechnology, reviews the federal role and funding for nanotechnology, and outlines national-level research, initiatives, and organizations. Also provided is a high-level overview of current topics of nanotechnology research and development (R&D) in transportation infrastructure, including its use to achieve emissions reductions.
