    • Abstract:
The 2000 Illinois Travel Statistics publication is assembled to provide detailed traffic information to the different users of traffic data. While most users of traffic data at this level of detail are within the Illinois Department of Transportation, this publication is distributed outside the Department. The 2000 Illinois Travel Statistics publication contains information previously included in the Traffic Characteristics on Illinois Highway, which will no longer be published. The 2000 Illinois Travel Statistics publication along with the previous four years of travel publications can be viewed and downloaded from the IDOT web site www.dot.state.il.us under the “IDOT News” selection. Annual average daily traffic volumes (AADT) and vehicle miles of travel (VMT) are products of the IDOT’s Traffic Count program. Counts from this program range in duration from data continuously recorded at permanent count stations to thousands of coverage count locations that are counted for a 24-hour period during the year. The mileage and vehicle miles of travel data in the following tables are based on roads/streets located within the Districts geographical boundaries (Administrative District). In this report, the State System consists of state maintained highways including highways marked as Interstate, United States or Illinois routes.
