Abstract:The objective of this four-year resaerch effort is to develop and test a methodology to estimate the economic impact of median design. This report summarizes the work performed in the second year. The secnd year of this study included collecting data from 10 additional case study locations from around the state of texas. Four of these case studies are located in Houston, two are in Port Arthur, and one each are in McKinney, Longview, Wichita Falls, and Odessa. One of the sites in Port Arthur was selected by the research team where a median was removed and a two-way, left-tuen lane (TWLTL) was installed. Each of the other case studies are locations where a raised median has been installed or where one was planned when the data collection was performed. This report discusses each of the sites chosen for the data collection, preliminary observations about the data collection effort, and presents participation rates for each of the sites where either mail-out or personal interviews were performed. In the next year of the research study, these data will be analyzed. In the fourth year of the research effort, additional data collection will be completed to obtain data after the installation of the raised median at the case studies where the pre-construction data was collected.
