Abstract:This report documents the proceedings of a two-day scenario planning workshop that took place June 7-8, 2012, in Denver, Colorado. The workshop was hosted by the Denver Regional Council of Governments (DRCOG), the metropolitan planning organization (MPO) for the Denver region, at the History Colorado Center. The workshop was co-sponsored by the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) and the Federal Transit Administration (FTA). Approximately 130 participants attended the workshop, including DRCOG and Federal staff as well as representatives from State, local, and county government agencies; non-profit organizations; advocacy organizations; private sector groups; and other organizations. Several members of DRCOG’s Board of Directors also attended. Appendix C includes a full list of workshop attendees. The purpose of the workshop was to initiate a scenario planning exercise that will inform DRCOG’s update to Metro Vision 2040, the regional long-range transportation plan. In hosting the workshop, DRCOG sought to highlight the scenario planning practices that the agency has undertaken in the past and intends to use when updating Metro Vision 2040. DRCOG also presented its recently developed analysis tools that will support the scenario planning effort. The workshop provided an opportunity for DRCOG to obtain feedback on how to most effectively apply the tools.
