Abstract:A typical Road Diet converts two-way, four-lane roads to two travel-lanes with a center two-way left-turn lane (TWLTL). Although studies have shown that this conversion can reduce motor-vehicle crashes by 19 to 47 percent,1 emergency response personnel sometimes express concern that reducing the number of through lanes could increase emergency response times.
