Abstract:

The Urban Mass Transportation Administration (UMTA) is the principal source of Federal financial aid to urban and non-urban areas for improving mass transportation. While the UMTA program supports transit through demonstrations, training, technological development, and research, the bulk of the financial assistance is for transit capital and operating assistance programs. Ihis publication provides a summary of the FY 1981 transit capital and operating assistance programs. Table 1 shows the breakout of the FY 1981 Program. Figures 1-3 provide information on the distribution of program funds as well as comparative data for previous years' funding levels.
