This is the U.S. Department of Transportation's (DOT) report to the nation for 1999, summarizing their progress as the United States enters the new century and the new millennium. The DOT's mandate is to advance the American people's interests through an integrated transportation system for the 21st century. Much was accomplished in 1999. Excellent progress was made in meeting strategic goals: safety, mobility, economic growth, environment and national security.
