Abstract:

The fiscal year (FY) 1998 budget request for DOT makes a down payment on meeting the

transportation challenges of the 21st century. A total of $38.4 billion is proposed to support

transportation programs in FY 1998. This is approximately one percent lower than the FY

1997 enacted level.
