Abstract:Small rotorcraft unmanned aerial systems have become increasingly common before, during, and after flooding disasters. A commonly used platform that retails for approximately $1,000 can perform six of the seven basic missions for flood events. The low cost of current UAS combined with the best practices that have emerged since their first introduction in 2005 with Hurricane Katrina offer a solid foundation for rapid adoption by agencies.
