Abstract:

Phase III of the bullnose median barrier development continued the progression of the barrier design through five additional full-scale crash tests. These full-scale crash tests followed the NCHRP Report No. 350 requirements for 3-32, 3-33. Data from all five crash tests were collected, analyzed, and documented. Conclusions and recommendations were then made with regards to the safety performance of the bullnose barrier terminal. Computer simulation of the tests using LS-DYNA, was successfully used to analyze and predict the performance of the bullnose design. The following sections of this report document the Phase III development, computer simulation modeling, testing, and evaluation of the bullnose barrier terminal concept.
