This volume covers that study portion which evaluated current subsurface investigation techniques, investigated interactions of the subsurface investigation system elements, produced a value analysis model for indicating the relative value of achieving new levels of performance in a subsurface investigation system, and determined the feasibility of horizontal long-hole drilling. A critical analysis of known subsurface investigative techniques was made. Summaries are organized into groupings for comparison. Techniques not fully utilized or needing additional development are identified.
