Abstract:The colorimetric properties of seventy-four samples of retroreflective highway sign materials were obtained at nbs by visual measurements outdoors using five observers having normal color vision, and by three photoelectric tristimulus colorimeters and a recording spectrophotometer. Cooperative measurements by two industrial color laboratories are also reported. The results obtained indicate that measurements made with five colorimeters having 45,0 deg. Geometry are in general agreement. Measurements made with five instruments having diffuse illumination and unidirectional viewing geometry are also in general agreement; in addition, these measurements agree more closely with the visual color evaluations than those made with the 45,0 deg. Geometry instruments.
