The objective of this study is to develop a proposed structure of various transportation modal information platforms that could be integrated and supported by the latest traveler information technologies. MassDOT’s current traveler information program is provided through multiple outlets and platforms targeted to specific customer service groups who rely on different media for acquiring traveler information. These services are not consolidated or integrated and have been developed over time in different units to support public expectations, special projects, or specific requests for new approaches. In this study the practices of various peer agencies are reviewed to help synthesize new agency strategies that involve the third-party community to disseminate traveler information. As a result, a set of recommendations were developed to inform the agency on enhancing its traveler information system and how a comprehensive set of multimodal transportation information services can be provided to meet the customer needs.
