Abstract:To help states track their own progress in deploying Commercial Vehicle Information Systems and Networks (CVISN) technologies, a self-evaluation requirement was included in the partnership agreements between the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) and individual states. This self-evaluation was tied to the U.S. DOT’s support of infrastructure deployment and R&D in cooperation with the states. One purpose of the self-evaluation reports is to encourage—through the sharing of timely information—the widespread deployment of technologies that offer tangible benefits in safety, efficiency, and cost for both roadside (electronic screening and safety information exchange) and administrative (credentialing) operations related to commercial vehicles.
