Abstract:This memo documents the results of efforts by the UVM research team to develop an initial set of pay factors for payment of in-place concrete by the Vermont Agency of Transportation’s Materials Testing & Certification Lab. The project consisted of employing a search heuristic to establish a variety of pay-incentives for synthetic data representing the assumed distributions of concrete compressive strengths (CCS) that are projected to result from the implementation of pay factors with an upper and lower acceptance boundary on 28-day CCS. The various scenario solutions were constrained by the stipulation that the final payment for concrete in the assumed synthetic distribution would total 3% more than a payment without incentive factors.
