Abstract:In 2005, the US Department of Transportation (DOT) initiated a program to develop and test a 5.9GHz‐based Vehicle Infrastructure Integration (VII) proof of concept (POC). The POC was implemented in the northwest suburbs of Detroit, Michigan. This report outlines the purpose and procedures for various tests, identifies the test articles, and documents the results of that testing. It also discusses the implications of those test results relative to the overall viability of the VII concept and identifies recommendations for future work, including whether and how designs and standards need modification. This volume is intended for engineering managers and practicing engineers interested in the design and development of VII systems and applications.
