This Innovations Deserving Exploratory Analysis (IDEA) project focused on developing a new system to detect the position of a vehicle relative to the center of the roadway lane. This system utilizes a phase detection process in the vehicle to determine the position of the vehicle relative to a resonant circuit (loop) installed in the center of the lane. The lane control system would include a manual override provision. The objective of automatic servo controlled steering is to keep a vehicle exactly in the center of the road without driver assistance. without the constant pressure of the tedious steering task, the driver has more time to prepare for and react to unexpected or unanticipated events that may occur. 15 p.
