Abstract:Crash tests are helping reduce the amount of damage caused in side- impact collisions between vehicles and the ends of guardrails. Original guardrail designs were not engineered for that eventuality, but improvements have been made in the last 10 years. New tests suggest ways to make them able to meet safety requirements at higher speeds.
