Abstract:
Since the mid-1980's the Department of

Transportation and the Public Utility
;
Commission have been developing and
;
testing a variety of technologies to
;
improve the operation and regulation of
;
commercial vehicles traveling in Oregon.
;
These technologies, known collectively
;
as Intelligent Vehicle-Highway Systems
;
or IVHS, are now mature enough to allow
;
widespread deployment. The systems
;
recommended in this plan will provide
;
significant benefits for industry,
;
government and the motoring public.
;
Motor carriers will operate more
;
efficiently, government activities will be
;
more effective and highway operations
;
generally will be improved.
