Abstract:This report documents the evaluation of cement replacement with mekaolin and slag materials supplied by multiple vendors by measuring compressive strength, tensile strength, modulus of rupture, modulus of elasticity, sulfate expansion, alkali-silica reaction, rapid chloride permeability, coefficient of thermal expansion, drying shrinkage, and heat of hydration. These results are combined to evaluate both mechanical and durability properties of binary and ternary concrete mixtures. It is concluded that the optimum cement replacement with metakaolin ranges between 10% and 15%, and that the metakaolin addition significantly enhances both strength and durability of concrete.
