Abstract:Attached is the Federal Aviation Administration's (FAA) Navigation and Landing Transition Strategy. This report defines the satellite navigation transition strategy that considers the vulnerability of the Global Positioning System (GPS) and describes proposed requirements for a backup for navigation and landing for the National Airspace System (NAS). The report represents the starting point for discussions with the users on the timing of transition, deployment of instrument procedures based on satellite navigation, and the schedule for discontinuing ground-based navigation aids.
