Abstract:Increasing attention has been paid in recent years to the use of Advanced Traveler Information Systems (ATIS) for alleviating traffic congestion. Understanding user response to traffic, transit, and parking information is important both for designing ATIS operations and for evaluating their effectiveness and resulting benefits. This report makes a distinction between travel simulators, used to study the travelers response to information acquisition, and driving simulators which are elaborate tools used mainly for human factors research.
