SafetyAnalyst is a software tool developed by the Federal Highway Administration to assist state and local transportation agencies on analyzing safety data and managing their roadway safety programs. This research report documents the major tasks accomplished as well as the findings and recommendations from the research. The scope of this project was focused on the first module of the analytical tool - Network Screening. The report includes a comprehensive literature review of studies and findings related to network screening methodologies and geographic information system (GIS)-based data processing tools. An overview of the major functions and features of SafetyAnalyst is also included in the report. Major efforts were spent on compiling a dataset based on the transportation network managed by the Regional Transportation Commission of Washoe County. The dataset was assembled using various tools and according to the data structure required by SafetyAnalyst. Finally, summaries and future research recommendations are provided by the researchers.
