Abstract:The first article deals with piracy in Brazil. Because of the high incident rate of maritime piracy in Brazil, the Baltic and International Maritime Council (BIMCO) has change reporting procedures for its ships and port agents in that country. In a related development, the International Maritime Organization (IMO) has initiated a program to collect and analyze global piracy incidents. The second article deals with the problem of currency, particularly drug trafficking profits, being illegally smuggled out of the United States in containerized maritime cargo, destined for foreign organized crime organizations which then ?launder? the money. The third article outlines how congestion problems and inadequate facilities at the Port of Santos in Brazil has led to a growing problem with theft and piracy of cargo containers. References, 21p.
