Abstract:The intelligent infrastructure is often the most visible manifestation of intelligent transportation systems (ITS) along with roads, freeways, and incident management is often among the first ITS elements implemented. They can significantly contribute to improving travel conditions by addressing delay caused by both recurring and nonrecurring congestion. Electronic toll collection (ETC) systems similarly aid in reducing congestion on toll roads. In a complementary way, emergency management systems can greatly aid in locating incidents and responding to them in the most rapid and effective way possible.
