Alternative Title:
National ITS architecture documents : risk analysis - U.S. Department of Transportation.
Risk analysis plays a key role in the implementation of an architecture. Early definition of the situations, processes, or events that have the potential for impeding the implementation of key elements of the ITS National Architecture is a critical element to the success of that implementation. The focus of risk assessment for an architecture differs somewhat from that for marketing and deploying a specific product. Much more attention must be given to institutional and organizational issues that could prevent the implementation of various aspects of the architecture. On the technical side, the risk assessment must pay attention not only to the feasibility of a technology to meet the user service requirements, but also must consider the capability of multiple approaches or technologies to meet the requirements. Also, the capability for new products and technologies to be introduced over time is important to the sustained success of the overall deployment.
