Abstract:

This system-wide Final Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) represents documentation of the environmental impacts which are expected to result from construction of the regional rapid rail transit system for the metropolitan area of Washington, D.C. This statement is based upon an environmental impact assessment prepared by the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) and its consultant, Wallace, McHarg, Roberts and Todd. The WMATA environmental assessment addressed issues raised in community information meetings and at public hearings held to consider possible significant environmental impacts of constructing the regional system. Responses to issues raised at these meetings and hearings were incorporated into the assessment.
