The Networked Traveler Project was originally conceived to leverage the explosive rise of smartphones as a

communications gateway to bring real-time traveler assistance concepts from the ITS community to the American

people. The Networked Traveler Foresighted Driving project utilized vehicle-to-infrastructure (V2I)

communication to provide drivers with in-vehicle, situational awareness alerts, specifically, a “Slow Traffic Ahead”

alert when approaching a freeway end-of-queue scenario.
