• Abstract:
  Mobility is extremely important, especially in rural areas, which have dispersed populations and locations. ; This study was conducted among rural minority populations to evaluate human transportation needs of the ; underserved rural population in Oklahoma, with particular emphasis on vehicle availability and accessibility. ; Three surveys were conducted with 142 randomly selected individuals, 32 tribal governments, and 113 ; randomly selected municipal governments, respectively. Results indicate that vehicle ownership levels are ; high. Respondents indicated that there exists very little public transportation, and those who do not own ; automobiles or cannot drive such as the elderly, have limited mobility, in most cases relying on family ; members and relatives for their travel. Because of monetary constraints and limited usage of public ; transportation, municipal and tribal governments are reluctant to provide transportation services.
