Abstract:The presidential candidates in the 1968 campaign did not focus on aviation as a national priority. Although they understood the immediate concerns faced by FAA and the aviation community, they could not foresee the new problems the agency would have to solve as it entered its second decade of operation. In addition to growing concerns about national airspace system (NAS) modernization and air traffic controller unrest, the FAA found itself facing new airport, security, and environmental challenges.
