Some of these techniques include ; traffic management, use of quieter and noise absorbing ; pavement surfaces, improving land use and planning, ; and finally the installation of noise barriers. Generally, ; the most cost effective and efficient noise abatement ; option is the use of a noise barrier. As a result, numerous ; guidelines and specifications have been developed for ; noise barriers to ensure safety, cost effectiveness and ; substantial noise reduction. These guidelines include ; information about determining the need for a noise ; barrier, design and safety considerations, environmental ; considerations, potential impact, and implementation ; procedures.
