Abstract:During the 3-year period from 1974-77, several problems were noted throughout the Pacific Northwest during and after construction of asphalt pavements. These include incompactible mixes, slow setting mixes, flushing mixes, low mix cohesion, and early thermal cracking. This paper reports on attempts to assess and determine those factors most affecting pavement construction and short-term performance problems in Oregon.
