Abstract:The Louisiana Offshore Oil Port (LOOP) facilities in coastal Louisiana provide the United States with the country's only Superport for off-loading deep draft tankers. The facilities transport oil ashore through pipelines, and temporarily store oil before ultimate shipment to refining centers located nationwide. Environmental monitoring of LOOP construction and operational facilities is required. As part of the Environmental Monitoring Plan, demersal nekton (i.e., bottom oriented fishes and large invertebrates that are active swimmers but susceptible to trawl capture) were sampled at monthly intervals at several stations along the LOOP pipeline and in adjacent areas.
