  • Abstract:
This document has been prepared as part of the New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) Buffalo and Niagara Falls Intelligent Transportation Systems Study. The primary objective of this working paper is to define and document transportation planning initiatives, and existing transportation facilities and transportation systems. The effort consisted of data collection, evaluation/consolidation and documentation of existing plans, studies and other information concerning: roadways, public transit, traffic volumes, demographics, commercial vehicle operations, tourism and other activity centers, border crossing initiatives, high incident locations, existing intelligent transportation systems (existing ITS), agency coordination, public outreach. The information discussed in this memorandum will be used as a basis to evaluate the existing transportation facilities and the challenges associated with the system. This information is crucial in defining issues that may contribute to the opportunities and constraints in providing integrated and comprehensive ITS user services and a strategic deployment plan for the Niagara Frontier.
