Abstract:

This report presents the results of a survey of the literature and other sources to determine the types of application that have been made of solar energy in the transportation field. The use of solar energy for powering automatic traffic counters, variable message signs, railroad crossing signals, bridge or pavement deicing, cathodic protection of bridge decks, heating asphalt, as well as space and water, are all described. A list of references and a bibliography on solar energy are provided.
