The worlds of mobile communication and the Internet are rapidly converging. This new domain, which is being touted as the "Wireless Web" or "Mobile Internet", is in its infancy and will require a number of complex technologies to mature and converge before it becomes as prevalent and as functional as its wired counterpart. While being developed to extend the reach of Internet users, these new technologies can also be used to support various ITS operations. This report introduces the new mobile Internet technologies and describes how they could be applied to ITS. It also presents some of the technical and institutional considerations when using such technologies to support agency operations. Bibliography, glossary, 2 appendices, 10 figures, 5 tables.
