Abstract:

Superpave has become the mixture design method of choice by most State transportation departments across the country. This document is a guide for the hot mix asphalt (HMA) designer to maximize the benefits of Superpave while avoiding potential problems. This guide is intended as a companion to the National Asphalt Pavement Association's "Superpave Construction Guidelines." The existing Superpave design system does not properly address performance prediction testing on mixture samples or decision-making during the design process. This guide addresses both of these areas.
