Abstract:This report summarizes the results of Phase I of the project, "Use of Intermediaries in DWI Deterrence." Data from secondary sources along with National Accident Samplimg System (NASS), Fatal Accident Reporting System (FARS) and National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA) databases were reviewed and analyzed in order to determine what "target clusters"--that is, combinations of drinkers, drinking settings, possible intermediaries and types of intervention offer the greatest potential for DWI prevention and deterrence. Two target clusters were suggested for development in Phase II of the project: Younger and older adult males in neighborhood or home territory bars, service personnel as intermediaries; and Youth and younger adult males in singles or market place bars, friends/family as intermediaries. Report includes Bibliography. /Abstract from report summary page/
