The fiscal year 1997 budget request for the Department of Transportation (DOT) reflects the Administration’s strong commitment to a streamlined, efficient and effective government. A total of $37.5 billion is proposed for investment in transportation programs in FY 1997, slightly higher than in FY 1996 (this includes appropriations, obligation limitations, and mandatory highway obligations). with new aviation user fees, the FY 1997 budget is up $200 million over FY 1996.
