Abstract:In fall 1995, the Police Executive Research Forum of Washington, D. C.,
organized for the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) a
national seminar to discuss the factors that would affect the delivery of
police traffic services in the 21s1 century. The seminar brought together
traffic safety experts and law enforcement administrators (from various types
and sizes of state and local law enforcement agencies) to discuss the delivery
of police traffic services in the next century. The seminar was held
September 28-30, 1996, in Reno, Nevada. This report discusses the participants'
concerns, goals and thoughts on the future of traffic enforcement and its
relationship with police services in the face of rapidly evolving technology.
