Abstract:This study examines the principal dterminants of the levels and changes in transit ridership for the U.S. transit operators over the 30 year period from 1960 to 1990. Transit ridership is represented by annual boardings. We would hav e preferred to have used liked trips for these analyses, but linked trip data are simply unavailable for mos to the transit systems and 30-year period analyzed in this study.
