Abstract:This report in two volumes presents an analysis and preliminary evaluation of selected used-car and light-truck fuel economy retrofit devices. In particular, information is provided that depicts the performance characteristics of retrofit devices that have the potential to improve automotive fuel economy. The spectrum of devices includes carburetors, acoustic and mechanical atomizers, lean-bleed devices, vapor injectors, fuel modifications, inlet manifolds, drivetrain components, drag reduction techniques, driver aids, cooling fans, valve timing, tuneups, exhaust-related systems, engine oils, oil additives, and filters.
