Abstract:
This report discusses the level and nature of world motor vehicle demand for the period 1980-1990. A general understanding of the structure of motor vehicle demand is developed. Published demand forecasts, varying widely, are gathered and their discrepancies explained. Based on analyses of individual nation motor vehicle registrations, sales data, economic variables, and energy situations, together with the general determinants of vehicle demand, sub-regional and regional demand forecasts are developed into a "most likely forecast range."
