  • Abstract:
    SafetyAnalyst provides a set of software tools for use by state and local highway agencies for highway safety management. SafetyAnalyst can be used by highway agencies to improve their programming of site-specific highway safety improvements. SafetyAnalyst incorporates state-of-the-art safety management approaches into computerized analytical tools for supporting the decision-making process to identify safety improvement needs and develop a systemwide program of site-specific improvement projects. SafetyAnalyst includes six safety management tools: a network screening tool that identifies specific highway sites with potential for safety improvement; a diagnosis tool that is used to investigate the nature of accident patterns at individual sites; a countermeasure selection tool that assists users in the selection of countermeasures to reduce accident frequency and severity at specific sites; an economic appraisal tool that performs economic analyses of a countermeasure or several alternative countermeasures for an individual site or multiple sites; a priority ranking tool for ranking of sites and proposed improvement projects; and a countermeasure evaluation tool to conduct before/after evaluations of implemented safety improvements.
