Abstract:Presents a model to measure the effects of various kinds and sizes of jet blast from an airplane that is taking off on a path at right angle to and traveling away from a jet that is landing. With increasingly powerful engines and growing capacity and frequency of takeoffs and landings, jet blast effects are gaining importance. Throttle management on departing aircraft and separation of takeoffs and landings are two of the operational elements that could be adjusted. Shows the even short exposures (one or two seconds) can affect landing aircraft. However, smaller aircraft may not be as seriously affected in their yaw angle and sideslip. Because it is difficult to set a standard waiting time for all aircraft that optimizes flow, the peak velocity jet blast is the next most reliable benchmark.
